On June 10, 2003, Minister Oskanian received Ambassador Rimantas
Shidlauskas of the Republic of Lithuania who presented copies of
his credentials. Ambassador Shidlauskas and Minister Oskanian spoke
about the very positive state of bilateral political and economic
relations between the two countries. At the same time they expressed
their common belief that much more can be done to improve multilateral
relations and cooperation in international forums.
Miniter Oskanian and Secretary Ignatavichius discussed trade,
political and other issues. They agreed that despite a long tradition
of shared relations, political dialog and cooperation between the
two countries had not developed as quickly and as deeply as is desirable
and possible, and announced that they would work to speed up the
process.
During the meeting they discussed issues specific to the Baltic
and to the Caucasus regions, including the status of the Nagorno
Karabagh conflict.
