On Tuesday, August 26, Minister Oskanian addressed two dozen teachers
from nearly a dozen countries who are in Yerevan for the summer,
on a continuing education program.
Studying at the Spyurk Center, affiliated with the Abovian Pedagogical
Institute, the teachers are studying Armenian language and literature
in order to become better prepared as teachers in the Diaspora.
Those educators who live and work outside the former Soviet Union
and Eastern Europe also study Western Armenian at the Spyurk Center.
The Minister welcomed the teachers and expressed his appreciation
for their dedication to their subjects and their students. He said
such Armenia-Diaspora cooperation is desirable and necessary to
build a common future. He responded to questions from the educators.
The teachers expressed concern about the lack of movement or debate
on coming to a consensus on a common alphabet, and how this obstructs
their efforts to teach Armenian as a Second Language.
