MEDIAMAX -- "Armenia wants the European Union to work out
and voice its position over the region of South Caucasus",Armenian
President Robert Kocharian said at a briefing in Yerevan today.
Robert Kocharian said this in reply to Mediamax's question at the
joint press conference with the President of the Republic of Lithuania,
Rolandas Paksas.
"We want the South Caucasus to become part of the sphere of
European Unionšs direct interest", Armenian President stated.
According to him, democratic changes and economic reforms going
on in Armenia today are aimed at the rapprochement of the country
to the standards of the European Union.
Robert Kocharian pointed out that the process of European integration
will become much more effective if all three countries of the South
Caucasus region coordinate their efforts.
Armenian president noted that the experience of coordinated European
integration of countries of the Baltic region might be extremely
useful for Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.
"This is why we are responded favourably to Lithuania's initiative
of drawing on the experience of Baltic regional cooperation in the
South Caucasus, which was first voiced during my last year's visit
to Vilnius", said Robert Kocharian.
Armenian President also noted that the coordination of efforts
for the European integration will bring to the growth of investment
attractiveness of the South Caucasus. Particularly, "the investors
will perceive our region as a common economic space",Robert
Kocharian concluded.
