Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Belarus Sergey Martinov on Three-Day Official Visit to Armenia

On October 15, 2003 Minister Oskanian greeted his colleague, Sergey Martinov, the Foreign Minister of Belarus, at Zvartnots Airport. The two met later that afternoon and discussed the usefulness of increased of bilateral interest in the fields of industry and trade. Minister Oskanian noted that the trade turnover between the two countries had doubled over the previous year. They also discussed Armenia-Belarus cooperation in the CIS and at the UN. The Foreign Ministers also spoke about regional issues and the current state of the Nagorno Karabagh negotiating process.

Minister Martinov was born in Gyumri when his father was stationed there with the military. Therefore, he made a point of visiting Gyumri and finding his birthplace. He also met with the Shirak Marz Administration, and placed a wreath on the memorial of the 1988 earthquake victims. On Friday, the FM of Belarus met with President Kocharian and held a joint press conference with Minister Oskanian. They addressed questions about the recent Azerbaijani elections, trade, international cooperation and Armenia's place in the foreign policy of the Republic of Belarus.

Prior to the press conference, the two ministers signed an agreement on Cooperation between the two ministries of culture.
