The regular meeting of the Armenia-US Strategic Dialogue took place
on November 20, at the Foreign Ministry. Armenia's intergovernmental
delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Tatoul Markarian, met
with Lynn Pascoe, US Assistant Undersecretary of State.
The extensive meeting covered an agenda which included developments
in the Southern Caucasus, the CIS and the Middle East, and the relationships
of each of the two countries with countries in those regions. The
two sides also explored international security issues, including
the fight against terrorism, and the non-proliferation of weapons
of mass destruction. In conclusion, both Armenian and American representatives
agreed to deepen the strategic cooperation dialog agenda.
The intergovernmental delegation consists of representatives of
the Foreign Ministry, the Defense Ministry as well as the National
Security Service. Since 1997, security dialogues between senior
officials of the two governments have taken place annually. Since
2002, they have been renamed Strategic Dialogues.
