Ministry Co-Sponsors OSCE Preparatory Seminar for Economic Forum

The First Preparatory Seminar for the Twelfth OSCE Economic Forum was held in Yerevan November 17-18.

Representatives of most OSCE member countries participated in the Seminar, on the topic of Supporting the Development of SMEs. It was organized by the OSCE Yerevan Office, and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Co-Ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities ad held at Yerevan's Hotel Armenia.

Karen Chshmaritian, Armenia's Minister of Trade and Economic Development opened the plenary session with a welcoming address. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ruben Shugarian followed with a reaffirmation of the OSCE's goals and the importance of its programs. Ambassador Vladimir Pryahkhin, Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan also addressed the gathering, as did Ambassador Ivan Naydenov, the Director of the OSCE Chairmanship Directorate of Bulgaria, who is the incoming OSCE Chairmanship.

Participants included representatives of Armenia's non-governmental organizations, as well as small and medium enterprises. An exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development was held concurrently with the Seminar.

A side meeting on the first annual progress review of the OSCE-NATO south Caucasus River Monitoring project was also held.
