Question & Answer
Hamlet Gasparian, Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, respond to a question by ArmenPress News Agency on Armenian archives issue
May 04, 2005

Q: The Turkish side continues to mention the issue of archives in discussing the normalization of Armenia-turkey relations. In interpreting President Kocharian's question, Prime Minister Erdogan has challenged Armenia, saying "We're opening our archives, if you have documents, you should open your archives, too." What is your response?

A: If there is a real desire and courage to regulate our relations, then excuses are unnecessary. As to our archives, they've long been open to researchers of any country and any ethnicity. Many many researchers have come to Armenia to utilize those archives, but none from Turkey. If they wish to research those archives, they're welcome to do so.

We just want to repeat yet again that the reality has been evident to all for a long time. Let's put propaganda to one side, and just go for straight talk
