Question & Answer
Hamlet Gasparian, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, respond to a question by ArmenPress News Agency on Azerbaijani Foreign Minister's statement
May 18, 2005

Q: How do you assess the most recent meeting between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan during the Council of Europe Summit? And what is your response to Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov's statement that "Armenia is ready to return the occupied seven regions, the question is only in the timing."

A: The Armenian side assesses positively the recent meeting between the presidents. It was an additional step forward toward the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The presidents meeting makes it possible to continue the discussions at the ministerial level within the Prague Process.

The Warsaw meeting was also positively assessed by the international community, especially the Minsk Group co-chairmen. The Minsk Group co-chairs are already working to organize the next round of meetings.

As to the matter of the Azerbaijani announcements regarding the return of those territories which remain under Armenian control, those announcements do not correspond at all to the reality.
