QUESTION: What expectations do you have of Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Armenia?
ANSWER: This is very significant for us, first, because such high-level visits are essential to maintain the accelerated pace of our bilateral relations. It is also important for the opportunity it presents us to become more immediately familiar with Russia’s position on the latest developments in our immediate neighborhood, in our region and globally. I am sure that we will have a useful exchange of views on the situation surrounding Iran, on Kosovo, on Russian-Georgian relations, as well as on ongoing reforms in international organizations and on a number of other issues.
The visit of the Russian Foreign Minister coincides with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Russia. This provides an opportunity to evaluate the road we’ve traveled and to plan what is to be done.
Indeed, our bilateral relations are deep and the agenda is broad; Armenia-Russia relations are developing in all sectors. During the visit, we will explore all those issues, focusing specifically on issues of cooperation within the security, transport and energy spheres. A key subject of discussion in our meetings will be the issue of the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
