On 5 November, Armenia's Embassy in Washington, D.C., in cooperation
with Armenian Cultural and Educational Society hosted an evening
dedicated to life and work of Armenian-American artist Arshile Gorky.
Opening remarks by Ambassador A. Kirakossyan were followed by a
presentation by Melvin Lader, a Gorky scholar and art history professor
at George Washington University. "It is inconceivable that
a son of Armenian refugees, a refugee himself, was the first one
ever to internationalize American art and elevate it to international
level", said Prof. Lader.
Attending the evening were representatives of social and cultural
circles of the US and Armenian diaspora.
