Foreign Minister Oskanian Participates in Collective Security Ministerial
November 12, 2004

Foreign Minister Oskanian traveled to Moscow to participate in the one-day meeting of the Collective Security Agreement Ministerial. The agenda included the need to more quickly respond to new challenges and threats, the battle against illegal drugs and organized crime.

In his statement, Minister Oskanian explained that Armenia was surprised that some members of the Collective Security had chosen to disregard the statement of the Minsk Group co-chairs at the recent UN General Assembly vote on an Azerbaijani motion to present a resolution on the NK conflict. The Minsiter said that by so doing the countries who voted in favor of presenting such a resolution in fact voted against the peace process, since the co-chairs -- those most knowledgeable about the negotiations -- had clearly stated that such a resolution would not be helpful to the process.

During his Moscow visit, Minister Oskanian also held a meeting with Russian Federation Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov. They discussed bilateral issues, and international issues of concern to both countries.

That same day, the Armenian Foreign Minister also met with the Russian and French co-chairs of the Minsk Group, Ambassador Yuri Merzlyakov and Ambassdor Henry Jacolin. The three discussed prospects for resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
