Minister Oskanian Received Special Representative of NATO Secretary General

Robert Simmons, the Special Representative of the Secretary General of NATO for South Caucasus and Central.Asia was in the region this week, and met with various high level officials.

In a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vartan Oskanian, Mr. Simmons explained that the main purpose of his visit was to meet with the special interagency commission on Armenia's NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan.

Minister Oskanian mentioned that cooperation with NATO and participation in the NATO Partnership for Peace program is one of the main components of Armenia's multi-layer security system. Armenia intends to complete the working program by the end of this year and to start its implementation in 2006. In this context, they stressed the significance of continued political dialogue with NATO.

The two sides stressed the importance of developing public awareness of the current status of the NATO-Armenia cooperation agenda.
