November 01, 2005
Minister Oskanian met with Maria Calivis, UNICEF Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe of UNICEF, on November 1.

Minister Oskanian noted Armenia's appreciation for the work done by the UNICEF Yerevan office during the last ten years. The UNICEF office, in close cooperation with the Armenian Government, has completed many programs aimed at the protection of children's rights, prevention of child trafficking, as well as educational and health care reforms.

Speaking about the Armenian National Assembly's ratification of the convention to abolish the worst forms of child labor, Ms. Calivis stressed that this kind of action creates solidarity in protecting children's rights all over the world. Minister Oskanian noted that Armenia has begun to work on a strategy to mainstream children with disabilities into the educational system, as well as to prevent the further dissemination of AIDS among youth.

The two sides also discussed other programs in which various agencies of the UN, UNICEF among them, may become actively involved.
