November 03, 2005
On November 3, Minister Oskanian received members of the Organizational Committee of the Year of Armenia in France, including Valerie Terranova, Special Advisor to the President of France, Nelly Tardivier, French Commisioner for the Organization of the Year of Armenia, Dimitri Ovtchinnikov, Director of the French Cultural Agency. Philippe Etienne, Director General for International Co-operation and Development, of the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs headed the French delegation.

Edward Nalbandian, Armenia's Ambassador to France and Henry Cuny, the Ambassador of France to Armenia, were also present at the meeting.

The delegation arrived in Armenia for the convening of the second session of the joint Organizational Committee of the Year of Armenia in France.

During the meeting, Minister Oskanian stressed Armenia's high appreciation for the organization of the Year of Armenia in France, and said this is a historic opportunity for strengthening the centuries-old French-Armenian friendship, and for enhancement of Armenian-French cooperation in various spheres.

Mrs. Terranova listed the varied events and exhibitions which will take place throughout France during the Year of Armenia in France. The two sides agreed that this significant cultural event would give the people of France an opportunity to learn more about the past and the present of Armenia, and Armenian culture, especially given the large Armenian community in France.

The main events of the Year of Armenia in France are to begin in the second half of 2006. There will also be events in Armenia in connection with the events in France. This will be the last time that France embarks on a cultural year project. In past years, France celebrated the year of China in France, and the year of Brazil.
