Minister Oskanian Meets with Lebanese Minister Salloukh

On July 11, Minister Oskanian received Fawzi Salloukh, Lebanese Minister of Foreign and Emigrant Affairs, who was in Armenia on a three-day official visit.

During the meeting, the two noted with satisfaction that Armenian - Lebanese relations are based on a long-standing friendship, mutual sympathy and many affinities.

Minister Oskanian said that Armenia appreciates the sympathy of the Lebanese people toward Armenians who escaped from the Genocide during the Ottoman Empire. He also underscored the role of the Armenian community of Lebanon in strengthening the bilateral relations between the countries of Lebanon and Armenia.

In response, the Lebanese Foreign Minister emphasized that the Armenian community played an important role in rebuilding the state during the post-war period, and continues to contribute to Lebanon's internal life. He stressed the bridging role of the community in the two countries' relationship.

The interlocutors discussed issues of bilateral cooperation that were on the agenda. They attached special importance to deepening cooperation in the economic sphere. Minister Oskanian and Minister Salloukh also emphasized the importance of the forthcoming meeting of the Armenian - Lebanese Intergovernmental Economic Commission. They touched upon issues having to do with the development of a legal framework between the two countries, as well as interaction in international organizations.

The Foreign Ministers also discussed the latest developments around Iran's nuclear project, current events in Iraq, the Israel-Palestine conflict, as well as the current developments of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement and other issues in the Caucasus region.
